Alabaster Head

An alabaster head of a man carved in full relief with drilled beard below the chin

an dimple below the mouth, the eyes and brows recessed for missing inlay.

 

South Arabian, 1st century BC/AD.

 

H : 19 cm.

Good condition.

 

Provenance : This head was exported from Aden by the Royal Air Force in 1969

before the South Yemen received its independence. This was with the knowledge

of Sir Brian Doe, The Director of Antiquities.
